Q15. How many crocodiles do you have?
At present, we care for more than 60 crocodiles, but the collection is always growing!
All the crocodile enclosures are in the area of the centre to which our visitors have access. There is a section of the rescue centre which is out of sight and small areas within most enclosures where the crocodiles can hide away to rest, and in order to give new arrivals the chance to settle in.
Q16. Can I feed the animals? Is it possible to hold any of the animals?
At some of our events there is the option to feed and handle some reptiles. The animals which we use are accustomed to these routines and will be selected on the day. Animals will be chosen at our discretion putting the animals welfare before anything else.
To avoid becoming dependent on humans, we ensure that physical contact with the animals is kept to a minimum. In addition, all crocodiles are wild animals - they are extremely dangerous and all have a powerful bite. They will protect their territory if they feel threatened. There are barriers around the zoo to ensure our visitors' safety and we ask that, during your visit, you stay safely behind these barriers whilst enjoying watching the crocodiles.
The zoo staff are always approachable and willing to spend time with visitors to answer any questions they may have.

We run conservation and breeding programmes from the zoo and work with international crocodile groups to conserve crocodiles and their environment and promote sustainability.
Programs we support include: Crocodile Specialist Group, Tomistoma Task Force, Gharial Conservation Alliance and Chinese Alligator Fund.
